Master Blasters - New Rocket Competition Show on The Science Channel

Wednesday February 6, 2008
The Science Channel is starting a new series called Master Blasters next Wednesday, February 13, at 10:00 pm Eastern time (according to the listings on their website). The reality show looks to have a great deal of promise for rocket enthusiasts, as it shows a home team of rocket builders (possibly called the Roc-Aholics judging from Internet Movie Database) going up against different competitors each week.

Each week involves some specific challenge. The pilot episode is entitled "The Blasters of Oz" and, presumably, has some sort of Wizard of Oz-related theme. Perhaps they'll have to launch a broomstick? Unlikely, as they're far more likely to go for the Harry Potter reference in that case.

For those who are interested in rockets, About.com has a number of features that will help

Is this just a rerun of the Master Blaster series that was on the Sci-fi channel a couple a years ago?

Terry - Looking into this a bit, it seems like this may be the case. The advertisements on The Science Channel are calling it a new show, but looking through Internet Movie Database, it looks like there’s only one show with this name and that it originally ran - with the same episode names and same cast - on the SciFi Channel. Whether the show will continue longer than the short run of established episodes into whole new episodes is unclear to me, and I can’t find much further information on it.

Now that the Oz episode is out I guess you realize the rocketry hobby has gone way past launching broom sticks. The show is more extreme then a hobbist would be but not too far past.

Pretty lame show… Would be okay if there was some successful rockets being built, but all I’ve seen are failures by some circus type Myth Busters wannabes. My 10 year old Grandson has built and flown more impressive rockets.
