The Physics of Doomsday

Thursday August 17, 2006
I just stumbled upon this amusing site, How to Destroy the Earth, which analyzes the possible ways to annihilate the Earth. Some intriguing physical concepts are tackled on this site, which includes ways the Earth could actually be destroyed (with or without trying) and ways that will not work in destroying the Earth.

For the record, the current Geocide rating for Earth is 0, which means that it has never previously been destroyed. The Earth-Destruction Alert Level is Green (meaning that the Earth has not been destroyed today). These statistics are provided by the International Earth-Destruction Advisory Board which is located at the same site.

Honestly, this amuses me far more than it should... hopefully you will find it as amusing, and perhaps even informative.

I’m not sure that the Earth hasn’t been destroyed before. The Moon came from somewhere.

It’s really tough to destroy all life on Earth. Lots of things, full nuclear exchange, for example, will hardly be noticed by the stuff living near hydrothermal vents. But Evolution can be reset by a billion years fairly easily.
