Christmas Physics!

Monday December 24, 2007

One of the iconic images of the holiday season is the Star of Bethlehem which, according to the Gospel of Matthew, guided the wise men (it doesn't say how many, despite the song) to Jesus. Learn what little can be deduced from the clues left to us about the physical meaning of this heavenly symbol in our new article, "The Physics of the Star of Bethlehem."

To find out more about the science of Christmas, check out Roger Highfield's great book The Physics of Christmas, probably available all over the place this holiday season.

And if you're planning to fix a turkey for Christmas, be sure to build in a temperature differential between the white meat and the dark meat. If the entire bird is heated enough to finish the dark meat, the white meat will be dry. Learn why in our Turkey Physics article, which covers the thermodynamics of cooking this tricky holiday bird!
